Maths and gaming
So you want to become a game developer. Now, isn't that cool? Yeah? Are you sure? Do you really know what it takes?
I'll tell you what it takes. Algebra, calculus, geometry... What? Did you say you want to do 3D graphics? Get ready for some quaternions theory then.
By the way, this just covers computer graphics. Then there's physics. Someone once said to me that physics is maths with meaning. Still, there's quite a bit of maths involved, believe me.
Okay, yet another rant, I should stop. And yes, I would like to become a game developer, maybe just for fun, maybe because it's challenging as hell. I'm not sure I will ever make it but if I do I hope I will be pleased for years otherwise this will just be a waste of time.
Having a full time job doesn't help. Also, having studied accountancy as my main subject at school doesn't help either. I should have prioritised mathematics but unfortunately back then I had no idea how useful it could have been to do so in the years to come. Speaking of that, not so long ago I saw a few adverts about maths and science as subjects you may want to learn at school. One of the adverts was about working in the game industry and it encouraged you to learn maths and physics. I wish I saw an advert like that 15 years ago.
Now, where's the bloody maths book?
